Oscar de la Renta: I fell so madly in love with his resort collection that I am actually quite bitter about this show. He made me swoon only a few months ago with a resort collection that was flawless and lemming worthy. There was nothing I did not covet.Now he is sending plastic handbags and lackluster gowns down the runway.
Oscar broke my heart.

I like the white lace dress, the cut of that is really pretty and wearable for many body types. And I love the black and white lace coat.
But the plastic tote? And the apple inside?
I like the white lace dress and the black and white lace. I think he does ladylike and beautiful very well. The plastic tote is an overdone, trite (sp?) caricature-boo to that, not even cheeky. The other two pieces I might have to see in person, but they strike me as boring. I am still thinking about that gorgeous D&G dress we looked at yesterday.
OMG, it reminds me of the time I went to Vietnam with my mom and she insisted on using a clear plastic zip-up bag that once housed a footcare gift package as a purse. We were walking around Saigon and she's letting everyone know she's carrying a digital camera, a fat wallet, and a passport. I almost cried every time we left the hotel. It's a wonder we weren't stabbed and left for dead.
Tania, the girls who work at some of the mall stores are required to use these clear plastic purses, I guess so that the store can see if they are stealing. When I see them being carried by anyone, I just assume they work in the mall somewhere.
I love the black dress with the belted white lace duster. Seriously--LOVE it. This collection appeals to me--it's romantic.
I have never heard of stores making employees carry clear purses, but I know that any employees of The Limited, VS, Express, etc. have to have their purses checked before they can leave. I remember a district manager geting caught with price tags following out of her compact one time! People get greedy and steal all the time. I thought it was overkill until I saw this lady get busted. So foolish!
I wish I could wear resort all year long...minus the clear plastic bag.
Clear plastic bags do nothing for me except to remind me of the time I worked retail as a teen. This was the only type of bag we were allowed to carry to work so they could make sure we weren't stealing the stock (this was Contempo Casuals in the early 90's).
